What
is a Flue?
Flue usually refers to the inner liner of a chimney which carries the smoke. In the case of masonry chimneys, most Flues are made of fired clay which is a terra-cotta or buff color. If your chimney is "pre-fab", the inner liner (Flue) is made of high temperature steel.
What are the most common Flue problems?
Lack of draft, smoky smell on the house, downdrafts, backpuffs and inferior fire performance. Most problems which are blamed on a stove or fireplace are actually Flue problems.
Which of these problems can your Chimney Pots help with?
All of the problems mentioned in the last question!
Can your products help solve problems with metal flues and prefab fireplaces?
No, our products are for masonry chimneys only.
How does the Extend-a-Flue help with Flue problems?
In numerous ways. By adding up to 25% in additional height, Extend-a-Flue Chimney Pots create a better draft AND can also help your flue outlet to rise above certain wind and roof air currents that cause problems. Because Extend-a-Flue is insulated, it keep the flue gases warmer - warmer air rises faster. Our units also feature specially designed caps which are proven to help with wind related chimney problems. Extend-a-Flue has numerous other features and benefits which will be explained further in the education section of this site.
Are there any Flue problems that Extend-a-Flue cannot solve?
Yes, however this site will educate you as to what steps to take and link you to web sites and products that will help you solve virtually any Flue problem.
Are there other ways besides Extend-a-Flue to safely extend my masonry chimney?
Here are the other safe options:
1. Have a qualified mason extend your chimney with brick or block and clay
flue liners. The cost will be from $1200 up depending on the chimney height
and style.
2. Install a clay chimney pot on top of your chimney. These units weigh as
much as 300+ lbs and require scaffolding to properly set up. They are also
not designed for retrofit (no fastening method) and therefore are best installed
when the chimney is first built.
